Filmmaker Martin Lisius announced that he has departed Getty Images to focus on his legendary StormStock brand which he founded in 1993.

"My goal is to improve StormStock through creative production efforts," Lisius said. "The fun for me is working with cameras and production crews, and pursuing the image."

Always innovating, Lisius was the first to capture a major tornado on Super 35mm film in 1998, and the first to produce and license 16K content in 2018. In 2005, he shot the only 4K footage of Hurricane Katrina making landfall, now considered to be among the most dramatic weather footage ever recorded.

In 2023, Lisius was nominated for Footage Person of the Year by FOCAL International, a non-profit trade organization representing footage archive professionals worldwide.

About: StormStock produces and licenses premium weather and climate footage for use in award-winning film and TV productions across the globe. The brand features rare and exclusive images of hurricanes, lightning, tornadoes, stormy seas, climate change, and other dramatic natural events.
