When he was just twelve, young Martin Lisius used to stand by the kitchen window of his Texas home with a little Kodak rangefinder clutched in his hands, waiting for the sky to do something worth remembering. And the sky, being Texas, obliged—throwing down lightning in great, showy streaks as if performing just for him. It was the kind of pastime a quiet kid could fall into for a lifetime, and Martin did.
What began as a boy’s summer fascination grew, as these things sometimes do, into a calling. Years later, that same curiosity—seasoned by patience, grit, and a fair amount of standing in the rain—became StormStock, a collection of weather and climate footage so revered that filmmakers whisper its name the way townsfolk speak of a man who knows things.
