Innovation continues at StormStock with release of first-ever 16K content

Since 1993, Prairie Pictures’ StormStock has been the class leader in the production and licensing of premium weather footage. Led by film director and cinematographer Martin Lisius, the team emphasizes innovation in every phase of their operation.  “We are constantly looking for new ways to see the weather,” said Lisius. “We’ve shot hurricanes, tornadoes and big storms from the ground, the water, and the air. And, we push the envelope with shooting formats.”

In the past 25 years, StormStock was the first to film a violent-class tornado on super 35mm, the first tornado on 3D, the only HD and Super 35mm footage of Hurricane Katrina in-progress, and now the first 16K content.

“16K offers a tremendous amount of resolution depth,” said Lisius who developed a 16K camera system. “It’s a large canvas that allows camera movement during post-production. And, it composites exceptionally well for things like sky plates.” StormStock’s new 16K is ready-made for theatrical releases and high-end TV commercials that require competitive content.
